What happens if I untick keep aspect ratio?
The image is stretched to fit your exact width and height, which distorts it. Leave the box ticked unless you deliberately want that.
Can I make an image bigger?
You can scale up to 200 per cent, but browsers cannot invent detail that is not there, so enlarged images look soft. Always start from the largest original you have.
What size should a profile picture be?
A 400 by 400 pixel square covers almost every social platform. LinkedIn and Facebook headers want roughly 1584 by 396 and 1200 by 630 respectively.
Does resizing also reduce file size?
Yes, substantially — file size falls roughly with the square of the dimensions, so halving the width cuts the data by about three quarters.
