How much can I save?
A straight-from-the-camera photo often drops from 5 MB to under 300 KB with no visible difference on screen. Resizing the width does most of that work.
Should I compress or resize?
Both, and resizing matters more. An 8000-pixel-wide photo displayed in a 800-pixel column is wasting 99 per cent of its data before compression even starts.
Will compression ruin my photos?
At 70 to 80 per cent quality the loss is invisible at normal viewing sizes. Below 50 per cent you will start to see blocky patches in skies and smooth gradients.
Can I compress the same image twice?
You can, but avoid it. Each pass throws away more detail permanently, so always compress from the original file.
