Rotate PDF — frequently asked
Does rotating lose any quality?
None at all. A PDF page stores its rotation as a single number in the page metadata, so nothing is redrawn and no pixels are touched. That is also why it finishes instantly even on a long document.
What does "only sideways" do?
It finds pages that are wider than they are tall and rotates just those, leaving correctly oriented pages alone. On a mixed scan that is usually a one-click fix.
Can I rotate by an angle other than 90 degrees?
No. The PDF format only allows 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Anything else would mean redrawing the whole page.
My reader still shows the old orientation.
Every mainstream reader honours the rotation flag. A few older or embedded viewers ignore it — in that case convert the pages to images with PDF to JPG and rebuild the PDF from those.
